I have the same problem as Kelly. I tried her solution, uninstalling and re-installing in a new path.
It didn't help.
I have looked at my registry keys. They aren't quite like you said they should be. I have a Windows 8.1 64 bit PC and the JavaSoft node is not under Wow6432Node (see screenshot). It's directly under the node Software.
I have tried uninstalling and installing, without success.
Any ideas?
